We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Predictive AI & Data team. This role is pivotal in driving transformative change by converting complex data into life-changing insights. Accountabilities:

In this role, you will be responsible for delivering fit-for-purpose scientific tools and solutions to our CPSS (Clinical Pharmacology & Safety Science) colleagues, using enterprise infrastructure and technology, where possible, aligned with AZ’s “Bold Ambition” initiative for 2030. Your tasks will include receiving requirements from stakeholders, prototyping solutions which meet those requirements, leading the delivery (including test and release) of those solutions and collaborating closely with our colleagues in R&D IT and DS&AI. You will collaborate with colleagues across the globe, predominantly with our colleagues in Sweden, United Kingdom and United States of America.

Essential Skills/Experience:
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent industry experience

- Minimum 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong programming skills in Python (and familiarity with other languages such as R, Java, or C++)
- Experience delivering scalable, production-quality software solutions in the data, AI, and analytics domain
- Proficiency with software engineering best practices (version control, CI/CD, automated testing, code review)
- Experience with data engineering, data analysis, and data visualization
- Familiarity with frontend development frameworks (e.g., Streamlit, Dash, or React)
- Experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases
- Hands-on experience with Unix/Linux systems, SQL databases, cloud computing (AWS preferred), and HPC
- Demonstrated ability to translate business/scientific needs into technical solutions
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills with attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to collaborate with diverse teams and present complex ideas clearly

Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Experience with Generative AI and agentic workflows
- Background in machine learning, AI, or statistical modeling
- Experience in architecting data platforms or data-driven solutions
- Experience working in the life sciences sector, particularly in clinical or pre-clinical drug discovery
- Knowledge of scientific methods, pipelines, and computational tools development
